Adding Value Through Finance.
As Financial Controller, Vincent's role goes beyond financial reporting. Looking at the company from a financial perspective gives him insight into many different parts of the business. This allows him not only to understand what is happening behind the numbers, but also to support colleagues in improving processes and finding better ways of working.
"I don't see finance as just bookkeeping or checking figures. I want to build a finance function that is flexible and can respond to what the business needs. I want colleagues to see finance as something they can rely on for support - whether that's helping them understand the financial side of their work, providing the right information and tools, or giving them better insight when making decisions."
His role also gives him the opportunity to contribute to developments across the company, from financial processes and reporting to systems and ways of working.
"What I enjoy about working at Lavastica is that there's a lot happening. The company is growing, with new colleagues joining, new systems being introduced, and new ways of working developing along the way. That creates plenty of opportunities to improve how we work. I enjoy looking at where we can add more structure, work more efficiently, and get more value from the information we have."
Always learning.
Vincent has always been interested in finding better ways of working, and the rapid development of AI has added a new dimension to that.
"Financial accounting has traditionally been quite a conservative field. Technology has already changed the way we work significantly, but I think AI will take that development much further, in ways we can't fully foresee yet. That's what makes me curious to see how the finance profession will evolve over the coming years."
At the same time, the business needs to keep moving every day. With the possibilities of AI seeming almost endless, Vincent believes it is important to keep the right balance: exploring where AI can add value while staying focused on the priorities of the finance agenda and what the business needs at that moment.
Learning also comes from the people around him. Since joining Lavastica, one thing Vincent has particularly appreciated is the entrepreneurial mindset within the company.
"One thing I've learned from Daan is that sometimes you just have to act. If you see an opportunity, you don't always need to overthink it. You can take the initiative and see where it leads."
He also appreciates the informal and open way people work together.
"What I appreciate is how approachable and open the organization is. For example, Daan is the Managing Director, but he sits right among the rest of the team, so it's easy to discuss something or exchange ideas. That openness makes it easy to work together and get things done."
Persistence.
When asked what he considers his superpower, Vincent's answer is simple: persistence.
"If I want to achieve something, I don't give up easily. When something doesn't work the first time, I'll try a different approach and keep going until I find a way forward."
For Vincent, that persistence goes hand in hand with his desire to keep learning and improving -both in his own work and in the way the company works.
