Ioannis
Ioannis in a nutshell.
When Ioannis moved from Greece to the Netherlands, he wasn't specifically looking for a career in the maritime industry. Today, he has become an important part of Lavastica’s sales team, managing customers across customers in Greece and Cyprus; building relationships in a region he knows like no other.

From Greece to Lavastica.

"My girlfriend got a job opportunity in the Netherlands, so we decided to move here together." Leaving Greece behind meant starting a new chapter, both personally and professionally. While settling into a new country, Ioannis began exploring career opportunities.

Through a friend of a friend, he was introduced to Lavastica. "I didn't know much about the company at first, but after the first conversations, I had a really good feeling about it." The job at Lavastica quickly turned into a role where he could combine his international background with daily customer contact.

A familiar industry.

Although Ioannis had never worked in maritime trading before, the shipping industry was not completely new to him. "My father was a captain. I've visited vessels several times and I've been into several dry docks. So I already knew a little bit about the industry."

Growing up around his father gave him a better perspective of the world behind the shipping industry. He studied Mechanical Engineering, which further strengthened his understanding of the technical aspects behind the products and systems Lavastica supplies.

A different kind of workplace.

One of the things Ioannis appreciates most about Lavastica is the company culture. "The atmosphere here is really good. The people are nice and everyone is approachable."

Compared to many workplaces his friends work in, the difference is significant. "Some of my friends work in very formal environments. Here it feels much more relaxed. You can be yourself."

Building relationships across Greece and Cyprus.

The market is very relationship-driven. "It's all about trust." That means his work goes far beyond quotations and orders. A large part of his job revolves around building relationships, understanding customer needs, and finding the right people within an organization. "You need to know who you're talking to. Once you find the right person and build that connection, everything becomes easier." His Greek background gives him a unique advantage. "Because I speak the language and understand the culture, it's easier for me to connect with customers."

While many people think sales is mainly about closing deals, Ioannis sees it differently. "I like talking to people and making connections." For him, sales is a natural result of building strong relationships. "You can spend most of your time just getting to know someone. If you build trust first, the business usually follows." That people-focused approach fits perfectly with the way Lavastica operates.
