MSC Vanessa – Safetec Cargo hold smoke detection system retrofit
Cargo ships do not only require fire detection systems in the accommodation and engine room, but also in the cargo holds. The systems normally used for cargo hold smoke detection use a smoke extraction method, which sucks the air from the cargo holds one by one and blows it through a main unit with smoke detection inside it.
MSC Vanessa had a very old cargo hold smoke detection system and contacted Lavastica International for a retrofit of this system, because Lavastica has supplied several similar retrofits to them in the past with success and satisfaction. This was a great opportunity to supply the completely new Safetec SDS-72 smoke detection system, complete with new fan unit, repeater panel and sampling tubes.
