M/T Fjordstraum – Fire detection retrofit

The 1996-built 5846 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT) tanker, "Fjordstraum," maintained its original Servoteknikk MBS-802 conventional fire detection system until recently. With spare parts and service for this system becoming obsolete, the vessel's owners reached out to Lavastica International, their primary fire detection supplier. The purpose of the discussion was to explore options for retrofitting the system to a more modern and future-proof alternative.

The 1996 built 5846 DWT tanker “Fjordstraum” had its original Servoteknikk MBS-802 conventional fire detection system still fitted until recently. Now that spare parts and service for this system have become obsolete, the owners contacted their key fire detection supplier Lavastica International to discuss a retrofit of the system to a more modern and future-proof system. However, since the vessel is 24 years old, the owner didn’t want to make a huge investment for this retrofit.

Lavastica selected an Esento Marine system with Apollo Orbis Marine detectors, because of it’s ease of installation, good availability and very competitive pricing.
