The Apollo Series 65 Integrating Ionisation Smoke Detector (55000-220APO) provides fast and reliable detection of rapidly developing, flaming fires while reducing unwanted alarms caused by temporary smoke conditions. Using proven ionisation sensing technology, the detector constantly monitors the air within its smoke chamber and quickly responds to the small combustion particles typically produced by fast burning fires.

The detector uses a low activity radioactive foil to ionise the air inside the sensing chamber, creating a small electrical current. When smoke enters the chamber, it interrupts this current flow. The detector constantly evaluates these changes and triggers an alarm when smoke levels indicate a genuine fire condition.

Unlike standard ionisation detectors, the Integrating Ionisation Smoke Detector incorporates special circuitry that ignores short-term smoke increases above the normal alarm threshold for up to 20 seconds. This makes it particularly fitting for environments where temporary smoke conditions may occur during normal operation while still providing reliable fire detection.
