Every day brings a new challenge.
Although she already had a strong maritime background, the technical aspects of fire detection systems and safety equipment were new area for her. She was familiar with their importance and knew they were mandatory on board under SOLAS requirements, but she had not yet gained experience with how these systems are installed, commissioned, or which spare parts are required for a complete installation. That was exciting, but also a little intimidating. "I remember thinking: I'm not an electrical engineer, how am I going to understand all of this? My father, who had worked on board vessels, simply told me: just give yourself the chance. You can always learn."
Today, Viktoria works as a Service Coordinator. Whenever a customer experiences a technical issue onboard, she helps coordinate the solution. Her work starts by understanding exactly what happened. Is remote troubleshooting enough? Does the vessel need spare parts? Should a service engineer travel on board the ship, or can the crew solve the problem themselves with the right guidance? Every situation is different. "I really enjoy finding the right solution. Sometimes you need to involve manufacturers, sometimes engineers, sometimes multiple departments within Lavastica. You constantly have to think ahead."
Learning never stops.
One of the things Viktoria appreciates most about Lavastica is the amount of knowledge that is shared. "My manager spent a lot of time teaching me the technical side of the business, sharing his knowledge and always taking the time to answer my questions. His support gave me a strong foundation, but learning also comes from yourself. If I don't understand something, I'll read manuals, research the equipment and keep asking questions until I fully understand it."
That mindset fits perfectly within Lavastica. Colleagues are always willing to help each other, but everyone is also encouraged to keep developing themselves. "You get the opportunity to grow if you're willing to put in the effort."
Helping people across the world.
What motivates Viktoria most isn't simply solving technical problems. It's knowing that every solution helps people onboard continue their work safely.
"I have an understanding of what life on board a vessel is like. When something critical isn't working, the crew needs help quickly. Being able to coordinate that support and provide a reliable solution is what I enjoy most." Whether that means arranging spare parts, coordinating engineers or supporting a crew remotely from the office, the goal remains the same: getting the vessel safely back on track.
Trust is built by helping others.
When asked what advice she would give to someone joining Lavastica, her answer comes without hesitation. "Always try to help people whenever you can. If you help others, you build trust. And trust is the most important thing, both with colleagues and with customers." It's a philosophy that fits both her personality and Lavastica's culture.
Outside work, Viktoria enjoys reading classic literature and discovering new places. Even after years of studying and working in the maritime industry, her curiosity hasn't faded. "There is always something new to learn."
And perhaps that's exactly what defines Viktoria best: someone who never stops asking questions, never stops developing herself, and genuinely enjoys helping others along the way.
